How to Download an Old Depot Build of Space Marine 2 for Modded Lobbies
This guide will help you download an older version of Space Marine 2 for setting up online modded lobbies with custom weapons and new operations. By following these steps, you can enjoy modded gameplay while ensuring your main game's PvE and PvP modes remain untouched.
Step 1: Open Steam Console
- Press Windows + R to open the "Run" dialog.
- Type the following into the text box:
steam://open/console
Or click this link to open the Steam console: Open Steam Console
- Press Enter to open the Steam console if not using the link.
Step 2: Download the Old Depot
- In the Steam console window, enter the following command:
download_depot 2183900 2183901 3177240399262390713
- This will begin downloading the old version of the Space Marine 2 game files.
⚠️ Depot download is volatile and can require multiple attempts. Leave the Steam console open, and do not switch to other tabs if you're using only one Steam window.
Step 3: Backup and Replace Current Game Files
- Once the download finishes, go to the following folder where the old version was downloaded:
Steam\steamapps\content\app_2183900\depot_2183901
- Navigate to your current Space Marine 2 installation folder (usually located in
Steam\steamapps\common\Space Marine 2
).
- Rename the existing Space Marine 2 folder to Space Marine 2 Backup to keep your current version safe.
- Create a new folder named Space Marine 2 in the same directory.
- Copy the contents of the downloaded old version (from
depot_2183901
) and paste them into the new Space Marine 2 folder you just created.
Step 4: Disable Automatic Updates
To prevent Steam from automatically updating Space Marine 2 to the latest version (which could overwrite your modded files), follow these steps:
- In your Steam library, right-click on Space Marine 2 and select Properties.
- In the Updates tab, under Automatic Updates, select Only update this game when I launch it.
- This ensures that Space Marine 2 won’t automatically update unless you manually launch the game from Steam.
Step 5: Play Online with Mods
You can now launch Space Marine 2 and play in online modded lobbies using custom weapons and operations. This process keeps your main game's PvE and PvP modes unaffected.
⚠️ Keep in mind:
- You won't be playing the latest version of the game, so patch changes or features will not apply.
- Your heraldry purchases will likely be reset when you switch back to the up-to-date version of the game.
- If you switch to the current version, you risk losing everything you obtained via unlocker if you do not meet the criteria.
- If you've used mods to unlock impossible loadouts or features, you must change back to vanilla loadouts before switching to the current version, or you'll encounter a black screen when accessing them in the current patch.
